Who We Are
Founded in 2016, Kongiwe is a contemporary consultancy with the purpose ‘To solve environmental and social challenges by providing expert bespoke solutions that promote current and future sustainability globally’.
Headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, and with offices in the mining and finance hubs of the United Kingdom and Canada, our team of professional Environmental and Social Scientists are highly trained in various environmental disciplines and have significant, hands-on experience in an array of projects across various industries, with the ability to execute specialist services quickly and efficiently across Africa.
With a unique client-centric focus and rigorous quality control processes we are proud that most of our clients are repeat clients. This has led to long term relationships where we are considered trusted partners in our client’s sustainability journey.
Large-scale and extraordinarily complex mining projects with significant environmental and social impacts. This project experience combines legislated permitting and licencing functions with ESG and Impact advisory services and is undertaken within a complex social backdrop.
We specialise in using the latest Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing techniques to establish a holistic understanding of the environment in which our projects occur, and we approach our projects from an alternative viewpoint enabling us to establish alternative thinking patterns and deductive techniques to maximise desired outcomes.
We have experience on “both sides of the table” and actively engage lenders. This has developed a practical approach to our advisory service which is sensitive to the commercial aspects impacting the projects we work on.
Being mindful of our unique socio-political history, Kongiwe is committed to meaningful empowerment and transformation. As such, and in line with the South African Government’s Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) programme, Kongiwe is a Level 2 supplier in terms of the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) amended BBBEE codes.
Our Client-Centric Approach
Given the strategic profile of sustainability management, Kongiwe provides client-centric services that are decision-enabling, focused on risks and opportunities and consider the commercial realities facing our clients. We do this through an integrated approach and our appreciation of the contextual challenges of doing business in the emerging markets.
How we support our clients
We navigate the frequently complex process of permitting and licensing, always seeking to “design out” risk and leverage unseen opportunities for improved performance.
We do not merely offer stakeholder engagement but focus on the bigger picture of stakeholder management. We take context into account, are deliberate and ensure meaningful participation.
We take our time to understand key drivers within our clients’ business as well as those with influence over their projects.
We ensure that our management approach and advisory services are always practical to ensure implementation.
We seek to create sustainable positive impact through our clients. We understand that this means that projects need to be commercially viable.
What this means for you
Our services are practical, integrated, contextual and commercially applicable. Our clients receive high quality data, presented in a format that supports business processes and decision making. This is provided by experienced and committed advisors. You will receive information that is practical and supportive of your business whilst being cognisant of the need to maintain scientific and professional integrity and, where required, strict independence.
